Strategic co-operation with MDI Schott Advanced Processing

2008-11/11

Berliner Glas Technical Glass Division is offering green light laser technology for Flat Panel Display and Mobile Production in strategic co-operation with MDI Schott Advanced Processing. Whenever high value brittle materials such as glass or silicon products has to be separated precisely and cleanly, need precise abrasion or require high edge strength following separation, laser cutting is the right choice.

Together, Berliner Glas and MDI Schott Advanced Processing provide state-of-the-art cutting and drilling products utilizing innovate processing technology for a variety of industrial applications.

Laser drilling allows various shapes, a minimum bulging and a high flexibility by performing any shape without thickness limitation by minimum diameter. No mask or other tools are needed. With the green laser technology and precision provide customers higher quality ablation of these brittle substrates, improved accuracy and faster index times for a mass production environment.

Laser Cutting offers many advantages. Precise and highly accurate cut edge, higher edge strength (higher resistance to breakage), no micro cracks, fragmentation or chipping and no material loss during/after cutting process as well as optical glass edge quality. Due to no particles, thus laser cut glass is adequate for clean room applications.

About Berliner Glas:

The Technical Glass division of Berliner Glas offers the complete production chain of glass refinement with the focus of display panels. With its extensive in-house production depth is the company worldwide partner for complex technical glasses with optical effective surfaces – from the development of a solution to series production of assemblies. The BERLINER GLAS GROUP has about 950 employees in Germany, Switzerland, the United States and China. The turnover last year amounted to EUR 118 million.

About MDI Schott Advanced Processing:

MDI SCHOTT’s mission is to provide state-of-the-art cutting products and is a glass cutting specialist. The Joint Venture "MDI SCHOTT AP" composed of the Japanese machine and tool building company for glass processing "Mitsuboshi Diamond Industrial Co., Ltd.” and the manufacturer for special glass “SCHOTT AG” has been established on 06/01/2005. The customers benefit from more than 70 years of experience in traditional glass cutting, more than 8 years of experience in laser cutting and the substantial know how the company has obtained working with glass itself.
